U.S. Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM) 265, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, fire a GAU-21 .50 caliber machine gun aboard a U.S. Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey during flight operations as a part of Talisman Sabre 25, in the Coral Sea, July 18, 2025. Marines conducted aerial live fire to maintain crew served weapons proficiency and capabilities to defend aircraft. Talisman Sabre is the largest bilateral military exercise between Australia and the United States advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific by strengthening relationships and interoperability among key allies and partners, while enhancing our collective capabilities to respond to a wide array of potential security concerns. Train Like You Fight: 31st MEU MRF hones fast rope techniques and marksmanship aboard USS America

Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s (MEU) Maritime Raid Force (MRF) conduct a fast rope and deck shoot rehearsal aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). The training simulated a helicopter insert into an opposed Visit, Board, Search and Seizure, one of the main mission sets of the MRF. America, flagship of the America Expeditionary Strike Group, 31st MEU team, is operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. Military working dog handlers with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, demonstrate the abilities of their working dogs on the USS Wasp (LHD-1) while underway in the Pacific Ocean, April 8, 2018. The 31st MEU uses military working dogs and their handlers for protection and aggression in order to disarm and take down targets when needed. As the Marine Corps' only continuously forward-deployed MEU, the 31st MEU provides a flexible force ready to perform a wide range of military operations. Marines and Sailors with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit complete a certification course in the carrying of Oleoresin Capsicum, commonly known as Pepper Spray.
