Marines Get a "Crash" Course in the "Helo Dunker"
June 12, 2013 | 1:03
Marines of Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, got their boots wet during a day of Modular Amphibious Egress Trainer here, June 12. The training is designed to teach the Marines how to escape a downed helicopter in the water. The first portion of the training was to familiarize the Marines with Intermediate Passenger Helicopter Aircrew Breathing Devices and proper "ditching" techniques before entering the "helo dunker" MAET, where the Marines put their newly learned skills to the test during a helicopter crash scenario. Soundbites include Lance Cpl. William T. Oliver - cyber network operator, CLB-31, 31st MEU (Hometown: Falmouth, MA). Suggested Lead: A day at the pool means something completely different for the Marines of Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, who recently trained to escape a downed aircraft underwater. Sergeant Jonathan Wright submerges us in the training. Suggested Tag: The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward deployed MEU and is the Marine Corps force in readiness in the Asia Pacific region. Produced by Sgt. Jonathan Wright. Also available in High Definition.
