Marines with Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct an embassy reinforcement and noncombatant evacuation exercise at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 5, 2020. U.S. Marines conducted a non-combatant evacuation operation alongside the armed forces of Thailand, Malaysia, and Japan Feb. 17 during exercise Cobra Gold 16. Cobra Gold is a Thai-U.S. co-sponsored exercise that represents the longstanding friendship between the Thai and American peoples.

U.S. Marines and Sailors with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (31st MEU) conduct a long-range non-combatant evacuation operation (NEO) at Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni, Japan. Marines may conduct a NEO at the request of the U.S. Department of State to evacuate U.S. citizens and other designated personnel. The operation was part of Certification Exercise (CERTEX) during which members of Special Operations Training Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force, evaluate the 31st MEU as it conducts it’s mission essential tasks in a variety of scenarios.
