Marines and Sailors experience the jolt of 50-thousand volts course through their bodies during nonlethal weapons training aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), underway in the Pacific Ocean, Sept. 14, 2017. Nonlethal weapons instructors with Combat Logistics Battalion-31’s Military Police Platoon trained Marines and Sailors from across the 31st MEU to use Tasers and other nonlethal weapons during security operations. A critical component of nonlethal weapons training is “exposure,” when trainees feel and experience the effects of nonlethal weapons, including Tasers. CLB-31 provides logistical support to all elements of the 31st MEU. The 31st MEU partners with the Navy's Amphibious Squadron 11 to form the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, providing a cohesive blue-green team capable of accomplishing a variety of missions across the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. Marine Corps Capt. Michael Gucwa an, AV-8B Harrier pilot with VMA-311, explains the training and importance of the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) while underway in the Pacific Ocean, June 9, 2017. During the flight Harrier pilots fired the (APKWS), a laser-guided rocket, for the first time in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region. VMA-311 is the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit’s fixed-wing attack asset and are combined with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), to make up the 31st MEU’s Aviation Combat Element. Through the first three weeks underway aboard the ships of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group, the 31st MEU has refined its capability to respond to any and all contingencies across the Asia-Pacific region.

Marines with Company E, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, conduct a ship-to-shore aerial assault from the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) to the island of Ie Shima, Okinawa, Japan, Aug. 31, 2016. Company E is the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit's aerial-assault company and specializes in sea-to-land force projection.

In this episode, Mineman Chief Petty Officer Philip Phillips pilots the Landing Craft Air Cushion, or LCAC, as it transports Marines and equipment from ship to shore. The LCACs are with Naval Beach Unit 7, USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6). The Marines are with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and are currently conducting Spring Patrol 2015.

U.S. Marines and sailors with Marine Medium Tilt-rotor Squadron (VMM-265) conduct flight operations off of the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) in support of Exercise Ssang Yong 2014. Marines and Sailors of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit flooded the flight deck of the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) for sunshine, music, games and food during a 4th of July celebration. Called a "Steel Beach Picnic," food service Marines and Sailors prepared more than 1,300 burgers, 800 pieces of barbecued chicken, and 800 hot dogs for the 31st MEU and ship's crew.
