Marines with Bravo Company, Battalion Landing Team 1/4, joined members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force at Camp Ainoura near Nagasaki April 29 for a week long subject matter expert exchange with the Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade. The ARDB stood-up as the JGSDF's "crisis-response" force in 2018. The exchange marks the one year anniversary celebration of the ARDB. during the weeklong subject matter experts exchange, the Marines and ARDB members worked side-by-side to share information and tactics at the end of the week, both units partnered in a demonstration at Camp Ainoura. BLT 1/4 is the Ground Combat Element for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in Okinawa, Japan - Marines with the BLT 1/4 are experts at infantry and combined-arm tactics. The ARDB's leaders have worked closely with the 31st MEU since its founding to develop amphibious capabilities similar to a U.S. Marine Expeditionary Unit, including several exchange in Okinawa and Mainland Japan. Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit took off from Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni April 19, and landed aboard the JS Hyuga (DDH 181) in order to load releif supplies for the residents of the island of Kyushu.
