Maj. Howard Longwell, an AV-8B Harrier pilot with Marine Attack Squadron 542, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, waves from the cockpit his jet on the flight deck of the forward-deployed USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) during flight operations. The BHR Amphibious Ready Group is currently deplyed with the 31st MEU on the yearly-scheduled Fall Patrol, conducting bilateral training throughout the Asia-Pacific. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and is the Marine Corps' force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
