Cpl. Jonathan M. Hernandez, an infantry Marine with Fox Company, Battalion Landing Team, 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines descends during fast rope training at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Feb. 23, 2017. BLT 2/5 from Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, California, is the Ground Combat Element for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. Fast roping is a crucial skill to infantry units because it is a quick tactical response. As the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward deployed unit, the 31st MEU air-ground-logistics team provides a flexible force, ready to perform a wide range of military operations, from limited combat to humanitarian assistance operations, throughout the Indo-Asia- Pacific region.
