Marines stand at the position of attention for the retiring of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 colors May 22, 2014 at Marine Corps Air Station Futenma during a change of command. During the change of command ceremony, Lt. Col. Christopher M. Murray, right, received the squadron’s colors from Lt. Col. William L. Depue Jr., left, symbolizing the transfer of command. VMM-265, known as the Dragons, recently rotated off the 31st Marine Expeditionary following its year-long attachment as the unit’s aviation combat element. During that year, the squadron participated in three foreign training exercises, participated in Operation Damayan in the Republic of the Philippines and aided in the search and rescue operation for the sunken Republic of Korean ferry “Sewol.” “In the heat, in the sleet, in the rain, in the dark, strapped in, tied down, rolling with the waves - the Dragons work day was never done,” said SgtMaj. Jason C. Boldenow, the sergeant major of VMM-265. “Our Dragons literally worked around the clock 24/7 to ensure the MEU was ready to fight tonight.” VMM-265 is now back with its parent command Marine Aircraft Group 36, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, III Marine Expeditionary Force, while VMM-262, the Flying Tigers, take the place of the 31st MEU’s ACE.
