A Marine with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit breaks the seal on his M50 gas mask during a gas chamber qualification, May 16. Learning how to don, clear and operate while wearing a gas mask in a room full of non-lethal gas is an annual training requirement for Marines. The 31st MEU is the Marine Corps' force of choice for the Asia-Pacific region and is the only continually forward-deployed MEU.
