Seaman Michael A. Hammond, a traffic control specialist with the beach party team detachment, Naval Beach Unit 7 of Fleet Activities Sasebo, Japan, and native of Wheeling, Ill., directs a Medium Tactical Vehicle Replacement, known as a 7-ton, from Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, onto the beach here, July 15. Marines and Sailors with Company G., Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, and CLB-31, 31st MEU, are preparing to participate in exercise Talisman Saber 2013, a bilateral training exercise between the U.S. and Australian militaries, bolstering their interoperability and combat readiness as a Combined Joint Task Force. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and is the Marine Corps’ force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
