An AV-8B Harrier II attached to Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, sits on the port aircraft elevator here, June 28. The Harrier is a short takeoff and vertical landing jet designed to attack surface targets under any day and night conditions. The Harrier is the only fixed wing aircraft capable of deploying with the MEU because of its ability to use the shorter decks of the LHD/A class amphibious assault ships. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and is the Marine Corps’ force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
