Philippine Marine Corps Martial Arts master instructor Sgt. Eddy Mendoza oversees knife techniques during a PMCMAP course alongside U.S. Marines and sailors with Company B., Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, as a part of exercise Balikatan 2013 in Ternate, Philippines, April 10. As treaty allies, the Armed Forces of the Philippines and U.S. military have a longstanding relationship that has contributed to regional security and stability. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and is the Marine Corps’ force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
