Marines with Battery L., 3rd Battalion, 12th Marines attached to Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, prepare an M777 howitzer for transport aboard the USS Germantown (LSD-42) before going underway to the Kingdom of Thailand, Feb. 2. The USS Germantown contains all elements of a Marine Air Ground Task Force, including Battalion Landing Team 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, Combat Logistics Battalion 31 and the MEUs Air Combat Element, en route to participate in the multilateral exercise Cobra Gold 2012. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and remains the nation's force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
