A safety swimmer with the Essex Amphibious Ready Group watches over Marines and Sailors with the ARG and the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit during an open ocean swim at the equator, Nov. 25. Marines and Sailors aboard the ship enjoyed a barbeque on the flight deck, and had the opportunity to swim during the steel beach picnic. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and remains the nation’s force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
