Marines and Sailors with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and the Essex Amphibious Ready Group stretch to catch a football during a steel beach picnic here Nov. 25. Marines and Sailors aboard the ship enjoyed a barbeque on the flight deck, and also had the opportunity to swim in the ocean at the equator. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and remains the nation’s force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
