Japanese citizens living in Thailand are escorted to a waiting Thai military helicopter during a multi-lateral non-combatant evacuation operation exercise, Feb. 12. Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, also provided helicopters to evacuate Japanese citizens to the USS Essex (LHD2), Feb 12. The NEO exercise, held during Cobra Gold 2011, brought together the U.S., Thai, and Japanese armed forces in order to exchange ideas and prepare for potential evacuations involving their citizens in foreign countries.
