Royal Thai Army Gen. Swangnue Woraeong shakes hands with Lt. Col. William Arick, commanding officer, Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit during a non-combatant evacuation operation exercise. Royal Thai military, the Japanese Self-Defense Force and Marines and sailors with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit participated in the NEO, conducted during Cobra Gold 2011. Cobra Gold 2011 ensures the region is adequately prepared for humanitarian disasters, such as the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami and Cyclone Nargis in May 2008.
