October 22, 2010, members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and police load food and water onto a CH-53 Super Stallion helicopter with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, during humanitarian assistance and disaster relief at an airstrip in Cuayan Village, Republic of the Philippines. Members of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conducted humanitarian assistance and disaster relief efforts in Isabela Province, Republic of the Philippines Oct. 21-23. The Philippine government requested assistance from the 31st MEU after Super Typhoon Juan caused damage throughout the area. According to the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the storm has thus far left 26 dead, along with more than 11,000 people displaced and more than 1.6 million people affected. The 31st MEU is positioned close to Northern Luzon to be available for assistance as needed.
