U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Scott Detar, a UH-1Y Venom crew chief with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262 (Rein.), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, conducts a joint live-fire strike exercise, part of Super Garuda Shield 2024, in East Java, Indonesia, Aug. 31, 2024. The purpose of the exercise was to effectively communicate and coordinate with other military entities to successfully destroy a simulated enemy. Super Garuda Shield is an annual exercise that has significantly grown in scope and size since 2009. Super Garuda Shield 2024 is the third consecutive time this exercise has grown into a combined and joint event, focused on commitment to partnership and a Free and Open Indo-Pacific.
