Marines with Charlie Company, Battalion Landing Team, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines, and The Japanese Self-Defense Force soldiers, perform on and off drills as well as fast rope capabilities on an MV-22B Osprey tiltrotor aircraft at Aibano Training Area, Kyoto, Japan, Feb. 4, 2019. Forest Light is a semi-annual exercise conducted by U.S. Marines and members of the JSDF in order to strengthen interoperability and combined capabilities in defense of the U.S.-Japan alliance. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU partnering with the Wasp ARG, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
