Lance Cpl. Zachary Lacoe, a navigation aid technician with the Marine Air-Traffic Control Mobile Team, Detachment 18, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and a native of Columbia, S.C., inspects a tactical air navigation system at Ie Shima airfield, Mar. 20. The navigation system transmits vital information to aircraft and personnel about a landing zone or an airfield. The team established an expeditionary airfield during a scenario as part of the MEU’s Certification Exercise, which is evaluated by Special Operations Training Group, III Marine Expeditionary Force. The 31st MEU is currently conducting CERTEX alongside Amphibious Squadron 11 while deployed for its regularly scheduled Spring Patrol.
