Sergeant Aquilles A. Ruiz, a signal intelligence operator with Company G., Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and native of Miami, Fla., searches for electronic indictors and warnings following an assault on an enemy encampment here, July 26. The assault was a training exercise during Talisman Saber 2013, a biennial training activity between the U.S. and Australian armed forces aimed at providing realistic and relevant training necessary to maintain regional security, peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region. The 31st MEU is the Marine Corps’ force in readiness for the Asia-Pacific region and the only continuously forward-deployed MEU.
