Corporal Quaylain D. Brown, a radio operator with the Command Element, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, and a native of Abbeville, La., operates a PRC-117F radio during Humanitarian Assistance training here, Aug. 9. Radio operators must keep a constant watch on the radio, providing leaders on the ground the ability to maintain communication with commanders on the ship. The 31st MEU is the Marine Corps’ force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region and is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU.
