Petty Officer 2nd Class Ryan W. Walton, a corpsman with BLT 1/5, 31st MEU, during a combat lifesaver class given to their Philippine Marine counterparts as a part of exercise Balikatan 2013 here, April 11. The Balikatan series of exercises focuses on training both U.S. and Philippine armed forces to provide relief and assistance in the event of natural disasters and other crises that endanger public health and safety. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and is the Marine Corps’ force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
