Cpl. Mark D. Svetina, a crew chief with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 265 (Rein.), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, guides the pilots towards the flight deck of the USS Essex (LHD 2), Oct. 11. The Marines were returning from a mock humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operation that was conducted during the 31st MEU’s certification exercise. The 31st MEU is the nation’s only continually forward deployed MEU, and remains a force-in-readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
