A U.S. Marine Corps AV-8B Harrier takes off from flight deck of the forward deployed amphibious assault ship U.S.S. Essex (LHD 2) during the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit's Certification Exercise on and around the island of Guam, Sept. 19. The 31st MEU is holding CERTEX in Guam in order to be ready to perform a wide variety of real-world missions should the need arise.
