The forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) docks, Jan. 22. More than 170 vehicles and 450 tons of equipment from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) were embarked aboard the forward-deployed Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) in support of the Spring Patrol. The MEU’s first scheduled exercise is Cobra Gold 2010 (CG’ 10). CG’ 10 is the latest in a continuing series of exercises designed to promote regional peace and security.
