Petty Officer 3rd Class Andrew Saslow, a beachmaster with the forward-deployed Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), provides hand and arm signals to a landing craft air cushion (LCAC) arriving ashore, Jan. 22. LCACs were used to load more than 170 vehicles and 450 tons of equipment from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) onto the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), the forward-deployed transport dock ship USS Denver (LPD 9) and the forward-deployed dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49). The MEU is scheduled to support Exercise Cobra Gold 2010 (CG ’10) as part of the Spring Patrol. CG’ 10 is a regularly scheduled joint and coalition multinational exercise hosted annually by the Kingdom of Thailand.
