A landing craft air cushion (LCAC), from Assault Craft Unit-1 (ACU-1), lands ashore to support the embarkation of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) onto the ships of the forward-deployed Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG). The LCACs were used to expedite the loading of more than 170 vehicles and 450 tons onto the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2), the forward-deployed transport dock ship USS Denver (LPD 9) and the forward-deployed dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49). The MEU is scheduled to support Exercise Cobra Gold 2010 (CG ’10) as part of the Spring Patrol. CG’ 10 is a regularly scheduled joint and coalition multinational exercise hosted annually by the Kingdom of Thailand.
