Members of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit conduct initial bilateral recovery efforts in Isabela Province, Republic of the Philippines Oct. 21. The Philippine government requested assistance from the 31st MEU after Super Typhoon Juan caused damage throughout the area. According to the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, the storm has thus far left 19 dead and 24 injured, along with more than 11,000 people displaced and more than 330,000 people affected. The 31st MEU is positioned close to Northern Luzon to be available for assistance as needed.
