ABOARD USS BONHOMME RICHARD (LHD 6), Pacific Ocean, (June 24, 2017) - Marines with Kilo Company, Battalion Landing Team, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, conduct combat conditioning marksmanship training on the flight deck of the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) in the Pacific Ocean, June 24, 2017. BLT is the ground combat element for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. The 31st MEU partners with the Navy’s Amphibious Squadron 11 to form amphibious component of the Bonhomme Richard Expeditionary Strike Group. Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, conducted aircraft firefighting training on a simulated helicopter frame. The Marines hail from non-firefighting occupations, but while attached to the 31st MEU and deploying with aircraft on ships, every aviation Marine that works around aircraft is required to know how to extinguish a fire in the event one occurs.
