A U.S. Marine with 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), provides security during a simulated scenario for an embassy reinforcement exercise in support of MEUEX at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, on May 20-21, 2021. The exercise was a training to help strengthen unit readiness in response to a range of possible crisis scenarios. The 31st MEU, the Marine Corps’ only continuously forward-deployed MEU, provides a flexible and lethal force ready to perform a wide range of military operations as the premier crisis response force in the Indo-Pacific region.
