Marines with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit's Maritime Raid Force provide security atop a mock embassy during Marine Expeditionary Unit Exercise at Camp Hansen, Okinawa, Japan, Dec. 5, 2017. Marines with the 31st MEU established a Forward Command Element as part of MEUEX, the first in a series of pre-deployment training events that prepare the 31st MEU to deploy at a moment’s notice. The 31st MEU is an air-ground-logistics team capable of a wide variety of critical missions in the vast western Pacific, including Humanitarian Assistance-Disaster Relief, noncombatant evacuations, embassy reinforcement and limited combat operations from the sea.
