A Marine with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit walks pier side at White Beach Naval Facility in Okinawa, Japan, before embarking aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6) for a scheduled patrol of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region, June 7, 2017. The 31st MEU is the Marine Corps' only permanently forward-deployed MEU. It is comprised of a command element, ground combat element, aviation combat element and logistics combat element, and can respond to a wide variety of crises anywhere in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
