A Marine with Company F., Battalion Landing Team 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, tightens the hood of another Marine’s Mission Oriented Protective Posture (MOPP) suit during Monitor, Survey and Decontamination Team training at the 31st MEU’s Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear defense warehouse here, June 20. A squad-sized element of Marines from each company and attachment of BLT 2/4 underwent MSD training, designed to give each company a first-responder team for a chemical threat. An MSD team is equipped to identify and isolate an area of suspected hazardous material for a follow-on unit of highly-trained CBRN specialists. The 31st MEU is the only continuously forward-deployed MEU and is the Marine Corps’ force in readiness in the Asia-Pacific region.
