A CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter, assigned to Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit takes off from the flight deck of the forward-deployed amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2). Essex, with the embarked 31st MEU, is currently operating off the coast of Kesennuma in northeastern Japan in support of Operation Tomodachi.
