Remains of destroyed buildings lie next to the port here, March 23. Marine CH-46E pilots with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 262 (Reinforced), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, flew a survey team to Kesennuma to conduct preparation for disaster relief support to the area. Assistance is being coordinated with the government of Japan's ongoing relief efforts, after a 9.0 earthquake and subsequent tsunami struck Japan causing widespread damage. As part of Operation Tomodachi, the 31st MEU is ready to support our Japanese partners and to provide assistance when called upon.
